The Kreuzkirchenkantorei has around 120 active members and, under the direction of Karin Freist-Wissing, is one of Bonn’s top ensembles.
The musical work is consciously balanced between traditional performances of all the important oratorios, cantatas and motets of our church music culture and the development of modern, contemporary and experimental music literature.
Interdisciplinary projects are an important part of the choir’s musical life: As part of Beethovenfest 2022, the Kreuzkirchekantorei sang the world premiere of Beethoven’s »Credo in unum mundum« in Marcus Schinkel’s arrangement in collaboration with the Kreuzkirche symphony orchestra, the Marcus Schinkel Jazz Trio and 9 soloists. This concert was recorded and broadcast live by WDR.
In 2014, the choir sang the world premiere of the jazz opera »Abraham« by New York composer Daniel Schnyder.
The choir regularly works with professional orchestras such as BonnBarock, the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, the Cologne Philharmonic Orchestra and the amadeus ensemble Bonn, but also maintains an intensive musical collaboration with the Kreuzkirche symphony orchestra.
Concert tours at home and abroad enrich his wealth of musical experience (Dresden, St. Petersburg, Stockholm, Berlin, Munich, Jerusalem, Bethlehem and many more).
