The Trinity Sinfonia

Out on stage, reeling off a programme, receiving applause: For Fabian Müller, this is definitely not enough for a fulfilled musical life. It has always been too little for him, even though he is now one of the most highly regarded pianists of his generation. »Being creative« is what he wants and he has shown what he means by this in numerous projects and challenges. This includes taking more and more of the reins on stage into his own hands.

The latest result of his constant endeavours to get out of his comfort zone: his own orchestra. Müller founded it in 2023 with musician friends and called it The Trinity Sinfonia. Its musical roots are thus reflected in its name: Müller was first musically influenced by the Trinity Church in Bonn, where his father was a pastor. The members of the Sinfonia are hand-picked and are all inspired by the idea of performing central works of the classical-romantic orchestral literature in the spirit of chamber music. Top musicians from currently sought-after chamber music formations such as the Aris Quartet, vision string quartet and Monet Quintet as well as solo wind players from leading German symphony orchestras are the core of the line-up and are jointly responsible for the special spirit of the Trinity Sinfonia.

But the work of the new orchestra is not only characterised by a sound culture that makes you sit up and take notice. As is Müller’s style, the Sinfonia’s programmes are anything but ordinary. The debut programme therefore focused on Mozart and ventured an unusual dramaturgy by interweaving symphony, chamber music, piano concerto and solo piano repertoire. A common programme structure in Mozart’s time – nowadays an ear-opener. And a musical affair of the heart for Fabian Müller: »incredibly exciting, incredibly enriching.«

After a celebrated debut at the Rheingau Music Festival in 2023, The Trinity Sinfonia’s journey now continues at Beethovenfest Bonn. All of Beethoven’s symphonies will be on the programme in the coming years: »A project,« says Müller, »that demands all our strength and at the same time unleashes our creativity like an explosion. An artistic adventure that we are incredibly excited about!«
