The pianist Andrej Hovrin was born in Samara (Russia). After successfully attending the music high school in Samara, he began his piano studies at the Music Academy in Petrozavodsk, which he completed in 1994 with distinction in piano (Prof. Ruvim Ostrovsky), chamber music and song accompaniment. From 1996 he continued his postgraduate studies in song accompaniment with Prof. Tatjana Bibikova in Petrozavodsk and from 2000 with Konrad Richter at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart.
Hovrin works as an opera accompanist, song accompanist and Russian teacher.
As a song accompanist he travels throughout Europe and the USA. He accompanies at international singing courses such as the Opera Studio of the Berlin State Opera, the Mozarteum Summer Academy in Salzburg, Härnösand Opera Academy (Sweden), Jeunesse Musicale Schloss Weikersheim (Germany), in Iceland, France, USA, Greece with renowned teachers such as Inge Borkh, Richard Miller, Julia Hamari, George Shirley, Vladimir Chernov, Luba Orgonasova, Mya Besselink, Neil Semer, Roberta Cunningham, John Norris, Monika Bürgener, Michaela Krämer, Kerstin Schötteldreier, Thomas J. Meyer, Caroline Stein, Katrin Kapplusch, Abbie Furmansky, Thomas Michael Allen and many others. He accompanies the European Singing Competition DEBUT and the International Singing Competition of the Chamber Opera Schloss Weikersheim.
Guest performances have taken him to the Theater am Goetheplatz Bremen, Aalto-Theater Essen, Konzerthaus Berlin, Megaron Athens Concert Hall, La Monnaie Bruxelles, Mainfrankentheater Würzburg, Staatsoper Berlin, Staatsoper Stuttgart, Oper Schloss Weikersheim, Theater Hof, the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg, the Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao, Greek National Opera, National Theatre in Abu-Dhabi, the Komische Oper Berlin, and to numerous festivals such as Athens and Epidaurus Festival, Usedom Festival and Kristupo Festivalis Vilnius in Lithuania.
With the successful production of Schönberg's Erwartung directed by Calixto Bieito, with star soprano Aušrinė Stundytė, Hovrin has already played as pianist and musical director in Spain, Lithuania and Italy.
He has performed with various orchestras, including the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Staatskapelle Berlin and Philharmonisches Orchester Würzburg.
Andrej Hovrin has recorded several CDs with songs by Brahms, Dvorak, Mussorgsky, Grieg, Sibelius, Rachmaninov, Berg, Bartok, Kodaly and Prokofiev, which have been released in Austria, Iceland and England. He has taught at the music academies of Düsseldorf, Hanover, Petrozavodsk (Russia) and Würzburg.
