Friederike Blum studied music theatre directing at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre and applied theatre studies in Giessen. She worked as an assistant director and stage manager at opera houses such as the Hamburg State Opera, the Braunschweig State Theatre and the Bavarian State Opera, as well as for independent and experimental music theatre productions.
In her work as a director, she has increasingly focused on the staging of contemporary music and the development of new forms of music theatre. Her own directorial works to date include the world premiere of »Ich aus Angst« at the Osnabrück Theatre, the projects »WegWeise« and »WegWandel« at the Bremen Theatre, which were developed and performed with young people, the short opera »Orpheus Moments« at the Biennale Musica in Venice, and the world premiere of the childrens’ opera »Frank und Bert« at the Bavarian State Opera. In 2023, she was awarded the Götz Friedrich Prize for her production of Peter Eötvös’s »Tri Sestry« at the Hagen Theatre.
