At the latest since his second album »Hurra! Hurra! So nicht.« from 2010, Berlin singer and guitarist Gisbert zu Knyphausen belongs to the first rank of German-language songwriters. His lyrics are said to be his mostly melancholic. But there is always a glimmer of hope, a belief in the good and a lot of love and affection for the often struggling characters in his stories.

Gisbert zu Knyphausen originally comes from the Rheingau region and studied music therapy in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, in the 2000s. During this time he founded the web label Omaha Records to give himself and artist friends a platform for their first own songs. »The most interesting unsigned songwriter of the nation« wrote the Süddeutsche Zeitung already then.

The official debut album »Gisbert zu Knyphausen« was then released in 2008 by the renowned record company PIAS. Press and audience were equally taken with the raw, direct songs. »Zu Knyphausen never wallows in his defeats, he maintains an attitude that makes him believe in tomorrow. More of that, please!« demanded Der Spiegel, for example.

In 2009 Gisbert zu Knyphausen was awarded the »Hans« prize as best Hamburg artist. That year also saw the first »Heimspiel«, a summer concert held annually in the following years at his family’s vineyard in Eltville-Erbach, which at some point developed into the »Heimspiel Knyphausen« festival. Meanwhile, each edition is sold out months in advance and the line-up is peppered with international icons and well-known artists.

2010 saw the release of the aforementioned second album »Hurra! Hoora! So nicht.«, which entered the German album charts at number 12. A nomination for the 1Live Krone as best alternative artist was on top.

In the same year, Gisbert zu Knyphausen began an unusual project with Nils Koppruch, who had spent years on Germany’s stages as the head of the band Fink. They founded Kid Kopphausen, in which both performed as equal songwriters.

After trips to Russia, Albania, France and, at the invitation of the Goethe-Institut, Iran, the long-awaited album »Das Licht dieser Welt« was released in 2017, for which zu Knyphausen spent almost two full years on the road.
