Joonas Pekonen is a much sought-after leader in Finland and has
been invited to play as a guest leader with orchestras such as the Lahti
Symphony Orchestra, the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra and the Oulu Sinfonia. He also works regularly with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra London.
Pekonen studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama London with Krysia Osostowicz. He successfully participated in the London Symphony Orchestra String Scheme in 2021 and was also a participant in the Finnish National Opera’s training programme.
Pekonen has performed at festivals such as the IMS Prussia Cove »Open Chamber«, the Royal Over-Seas League Summer Place Festival, JAM at the Marsh and the Sounds of Luosto Festival. He was the first violinist of the Picea Quartet, with whom he won the St James's Chamber Prize in 2021.
As a soloist, Pekonen has performed with the Joensuu City Orchestra, the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra and the Tallis Chamber Orchestra. He plays on an anonymous »Antonio Stradivari 1699« violin, which was lent to him by the Finnish Cultural Foundation.
