Jürg Halter was born 1980 in Bern, where he lives most of the time. Halter is a writer, poet, spoken word artist and visual artist. He is one of the best-known Swiss authors of his generation and one of the pioneers of the new German-language spoken word movement. He studied visual arts at the Bern University of the Arts. He performs regularly throughout Europe, in the USA, Africa, Russia, South America and Japan. He has published numerous books and CDs and regularly works for the theatre and exhibits his art. His most recent publications are »Erwachen im 21. Jahrhundert« (Zytglogge Verlag, 2018), Halter’s debut novel, the poetry collection »Gemeinsame Sprache« (Dörlemann, 2021) and Halter’s first film »Haltlos« (Recycled TV, 2022), a collaborative work with Peter Guyer. In September 2022, Halter’s first solo exhibition opened in Zurich at Galerie Stephan Witschi under the title »Fuck Slogans«. In June 2023, his new book, »Verlassenes Boot treibt Richtung Mond« (Scheidegger & Spiess), a lyrical-painterly collaborative work with the painter Uwe Wittwer, was published.
Halter was also known as a dialect rapper and spoken word singer under the name Kutti MC and released five albums between 2005 and 2015. He was one of the most influential and controversial figures in the Swiss music scene of those years, with influence beyond the country’s borders. Halter announced the end of Kutti MC at the beginning of 2015.
In addition, he has performed numerous times as a writer and performer with various musicians throughout Europe. His current music project is called »Achtung Niemand«.
