Stefanie Mirwald (born 1988) is a unique and charismatic accordionist. Open to all kinds of musical styles and cross-genre projects, her repertoire ranges from early and contemporary music to tango, klezmer, chansons and Swiss folk music. Her concert activities as a soloist, chamber musician or in an orchestra have already taken her all over the world.
In 2019, she made her debut with Ensemble Modern in Shanghai. She has also performed at festivals such as the Gstaad Menuhin Festival, DAVOS Festival, Ruhrtriennale in Essen, Bern Music Festival, SoundState in London, IMPULS Graz, Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik Darmstadt, ZeitRäume Festival Basel and Lux aeterna at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg. In 2014 she was Artist in Residence at the Banff Centre (Canada).
Stefanie Mirwald has won several competitions, including the ORPHEUS Competition 2017, and in 2014 she was awarded the Bavarian Culture Prize for outstanding artistic and academic achievements.
She studied accordion and contemporary music at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg, with Iñaki Alberdi in Musikene (Spain) and at the Basel Music Academy. In addition to her concert activities, she teaches accordion and Schwyzerörgeli at various music schools in Switzerland.
