Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen is one of the leading international orchestras and delights audiences worldwide with its unique style of music-making. The Estonian conductor Paavo Järvi has been its artistic director since 2004.
Since the beginning of 2022, the young Finnish conductor Tarmo Peltokoski, who was awarded an Opus Klassik in autumn 2023, has been the first Principal Guest Conductor in the orchestra’s history.
A highlight of the collaboration with Järvi was the benchmark Beethoven project, on which the conductor and orchestra focussed for ten years. The results were acclaimed performances worldwide and international praise for the recordings. Beethoven was followed by a phenomenal Schumann cycle. Since 2015, Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen has focussed on the composer Johannes Brahms with Paavo Järvi. A highlight of the Brahms project was the internationally acclaimed anniversary performance of the Requiem on 10 April 2018 in Bremen Cathedral. In October 2019, »The Brahms Code« was released - a TV/DVD award-winning documentary by Deutsche Welle/Unitel about the Brahms project.
At Paavo Järvi’s request, the orchestra is working on Haydn’s twelve London symphonies. The first concerts were heard in Vienna in autumn 2021, which the audience »greeted with bravos and long applause ...« according to the Wiener Zeitung. This was followed by a tour and CD recordings. In October 2023, the orchestra was honoured by Gramophone as »Orchestra of the Year« for this recording.
Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen has been honoured with countless awards such as Echo, Opus and Diapason d'Or for its recordings and the unique »Zukunftslabor« (»Future Laboratory«), a driving force for society and now a worldwide movement. For years, the orchestra has cultivated close musical friendships with international soloists such as Christian Tetzlaff, Lang Lang, Janine Jansen, Igor Levit and Hilary Hahn.
The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen has been one of the resident orchestras of the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg since it opened in 2017 and has been the resident orchestra of the Kölner Philharmonie for many years. In 2019, it was the first orchestra in residence at the Rheingau Music Festival and was honoured with the Rheingau Music Prize for its pioneering projects.
