With its exceptional enthusiasm and artistic quality, Ensemble Resonanz is one of the world’s leading chamber orchestras. The musicians’ programme ideas place old and new music in lively contexts and ensure resonance between the works, the audience and the stories that arise around the programmes.

The 20-piece string orchestra is democratically organised and works without a permanent conductor, but always brings artistic partners on board. Violinist and conductor Riccardo Minasi has accompanied Ensemble Resonanz for several years as Principal Guest Conductor & Partner in Crime. The ensemble has forged close artistic ties with violist Tabea Zimmermann, violinist Isabelle Faust, cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras, conductor Emilio Pomàrico and scenographer Annette Kurz. Collaborations with composers and the development of new repertoire are also a driving force behind the ensemble’s artistic work.

In Hamburg, Ensemble Resonanz performs at two special and different venues: the Elbphilharmonie and the resonanzraum St. Pauli. The residency at the Elbphilharmonie includes the concert series »resonanzen«, children’s concerts and various festivals. The resonanzraum in the Hochbunker on St Pauli, Europe’s first chamber music club, is the home of Ensemble Resonanz. Here, the musicians invite to the »urban string« concert series, which is presented together with DJs and electronic artists and was honoured with the Innovation Award as the most innovative format in the world of classical music in 2016.

The musicians perform at various festivals and leading concert halls around the world, leaving behind enthusiastic audiences from Vienna to Tokyo.
