The international MGV Walhalla zum Seidlwirt (with singers from Turkey, Israel, Austria, England and Germany) was founded by former singing students of the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin. It gives the ›MännerGesangsVerein‹ (men’s choral society) genre an upgrade for the 21st century.
The core characteristics of a men’s choral society – the fun of making music together, exuberance and approachability – have remained. Classical vocal artistry, artistic seriousness and a dose of self-irony have been added. Its repertoire is correspondingly diverse. From classical and operetta to barbershop songs and chansons to folk songs from the singers’ home countries and beyond, everything is included. And the concert audience is always part of the whole.
The ensemble now performs on renowned stages at home and abroad, including the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Liszt Academy Budapest, the Europäische Wochen Passau, the Vienna Musikverein and the Grafenegg Festival. Chamber music partners of Walhalla zum Seidlwirt include Fatma Said, the Vienna Horn Ensemble and the Adelphi Quartet.
