Julian Emanuel Becker was born in Hanover in 2005 and was admitted to the preliminary class of the Institut for Early Support of Musically Gifted (IFF) at Hannover University of Music, Drama and Media (HMTMH) already at the age of 7. The organist and pianist performs as a soloist at many international festivals such as the International Organ Week Nuremberg, the Festival International d’Orgue Dudelange (Luxembourg) or the Musikwoche Hitzacker as well as a soloist with youth and student orchestras.
As a composer, he wrote commissioned works that were premiered by renowned soloists and ensembles such as Jeroen Berwaerts, Salaputia Brass and the Mädchenchor Hannover.
Currently Becker is a junior student in organ with Martin Schmeding and Thomas Lennartz and in piano with Jacques Ammon and Elena Levit at the Music Universities of Leipzig and Hannover. He was taught composition by Marcus Aydintan. Additionally he obtained further impulses from master classes with Igor Levit, Daniel Roth and Henry Fairs.
Julian received numerous first prizes for organ and piano at the German national competition »Jugend musiziert«, as well as special prizes at WESPE for contemporary music, organ improvisation and ostracised music. In 2019 he won the Northern Ireland International Organ Competition (NIIOC) and in 2020 1st prize at the Grotrian-Steinweg Piano Competition. He is also a three-time national prize winner in the »Jugend komponiert« (»youth composes«) competition. In 2021, he was awarded the Hans Sikorski Prize for the exemplary interpretation of a contemporary work by the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben. His latest success was the second prize and audience prize at the St Albans International Organ Competition (UK) in 2023. He receives further support as a scholarship holder of the Jürgen Ponto Foundation and the Foundation Jugend musiziert Niedersachsen.
