Matthias Bergmann has studied modern and baroque Violoncello in Munich, Lübeck and Frankfurt and Viola da Gamba in Frankfurt, Bremen and Basel. He lives in Mannheim and holds the position as Principal Cellist at Orchester des Pfalztheaters Kaiserslautern.

Additionaly he regularly collaborates with many other orchestras, operas and ensembles, e.g. Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, oh! Orkiestra Historyczna, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Freiburger Barock Consort, il Gusto Barocco Stuttgart and Staatsphilharmonie Ludwigshafen.

He appears at various festivals such as Bachfest Leipzig, Händel Festspiele Göttingen, Musikfest Stuttgart, Heinrich Schütz Musikfest, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Schwetzinger SWR Festspiele.

Matthias Bergmann has taken part in several radio and CD productions, including a recording of Telemann’s complete works for Viola da Gamba or Violoncello and Basso continuo.

Since 2022 Matthias Bergmann is teaching historical Violoncello as visiting guest profesor at the music university in Bydgoszcz, Poland, and on masterclasses.
