Conductor and pianist Maxim Emelyanchyev was born in 1988 and studied with Gennady Rozhdestvensky and others at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. Since 2013 he has been chief conductor of the Italian ensemble Il Pomo d’Oro. Three of the ensemble’s programmes with the renowned soprano Joyce DiDonato have been released on CD. After conducting other orchestras, Emelyanchyev became principal conductor of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra in 2019, with whom he has now recorded Schubert’s »Great« C Major Symphony and Mendelssohn’s Symphonies Nos. 3 and 5. His contract has recently been extended until 2028.
Emelyanychev has made debuts as a guest conductor at the Glyndebourne Festival, the Royal Opera House, the Orchestre de Paris, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic. He has appeared with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra at the BBC Proms and the Edinburgh Festival. Highlights of the current season include debuts with the Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Mozarteum Orchestra at the Salzburg Festival. A major project for the coming years is the recording of the complete Mozart symphonies with Pomo d’Oro.
