Already as a 6-year old, Maxine Troglauer began trombone lessons with Joachim Tobschall at the Wiesbaden Music and Art School. On the occasion of a newly founded trombone quartet, she switched to the bass trombone at the age of 13 and was able to win a first prize at the national level at »Jugend musiziert« German National competition with the quartet as early as 2008. In the following years, she won further first prizes at national level in both the solo and duo categories.
At the German Music Competition in March 2017, Troglauer received a scholarship from the competition and was accepted into the »Bundesauswahl Konzerte junger Künstler«, in which she performed together with Vanessa Porter (percussion) as Fusion Duo at numerous concerts throughout Germany in the 2018/2019 season.
After being a member of the Hessian Youth Symphony Orchestra from 2010 to 2012, she was accepted into the National Youth Orchestra in 2012. In the following two years, concert tours took her to China, Tunisia and numerous concert venues in Germany and she was able to further deepen her passion and skills for orchestral playing.
Troglauer has already worked as a substitute at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Staatstheater Wiesbaden and the Stadttheater Bremen, among others, in recent years. In addition, she held a temporary contract as bass trombonist at the Staatsoper Hannover during the 2018/2019 season.
Over the course of 2016 and 2017, jazz and big band music have taken on an increasingly important role in her life. After two years as a member of the Brandenburg State Youth Jazz Orchestra under the direction of jazz trombonist Jiggs Whigham, she was accepted into the National Jazz Orchestra in 2018, which has made guest appearances at the Rochester Jazz Festival, Ottawa Jazz Festival and in Tel Aviv, Israel, among others, and which works with renowned artists such as Niels Klein, Django Bates and the WDR Bigband.
In the meantime, she has been able to complement her passion for the big band with projects with the NDR Bigband, Monika Roscher Bigband, Berlin Jazz Orchestra, Fette Hupe Hannover and the Omniversal Earkestra Berlin, among others, and is one of the most sought-after bass trombonists in the north-east of Germany for various large ensemble and big band projects.
After graduating from high school, she moved to Berlin in April 2014 to begin her studies at the »Hanns Eisler« Musikhochschule with Prof. Christhard Gössling. After 3 semesters, she moved to Hanover to join the class of Prof. Jonas Bylund, where she completed her Bachelor’s degree in July 2019. She received additional lessons and master classes from Tomer Maschkowski, Eric van Lier, Ingo Lahme and Stefan Schulz, among others.
From August 2019 to May 2021, Troglauer lived in New York City, USA, where she completed her Master’s studies with renowned bass trombonist David Taylor in the Contemporary Performance Program at the Manhattan School of Music. There she was offered unique opportunities to develop in a wide range of modern music fields and to raise her profile as innovative freelance artist.
Troglauer has been living in Berlin as a freelance artist since September 2021.
