Paul Bießmann (*1988) studied jazz piano in Nuremberg and media technology in Ilmenau. As a musician and digital artist, he explores interfaces and points of friction between music, people and technology. His audiovisual works are often based on interaction and generative means. For example, the audience becomes part of a sound installation through their position in the room, electronic textiles read out movements or smartphones become multi-screen black synthesizers. In 2022, he was Artist in Lab of the Fraunhofer Network, converting ECG signals from trees into a 3D sound and video installation. He realised interdisciplinary projects for the Center for Creative Industries (CCI) Fabrika in Moscow, the ID Festival, the Neuköllner Opera or the Einstein Center Digital Future, among others. He is also a founding member of the HIDALGO collective, an association of interdisciplinary artists who have set themselves the task of creating new concert formats.
The concert visualisations add a new layer to the musical experience. They are controlled in real time like an instrument and also react directly to the music through microphones.
