Mathieu van Bellen | violin
Ori Epstein | cello
Omri Epstein | piano
Omri, Mathieu and Ori became friends long before they started performing together and have kept their shared interests alive outside of music: Cycling, fishing, soccer and cooking. But their passion for music remains their strongest bond. »This trio is the result of a long-standing friendship«, says Omri Epstein, describing the essentially spontaneous process by which the trio was formed in 2012 and has established itself as one of the leading ensembles on the international stage.
The Busch Trio takes its name from its role model, the violinist and composer Adolf Busch, whose G. B. Guadagnini (Turin, 1783) Mathieu plays. Personalities such as Eberhard Feltz, Sir András Schiff and the Artemis Quartet have played a formative role in the development of the Busch Trio.
The press and loyal fans appreciate the great emotional sensitivity and intelligence of their interpretations. »The more you know, the more freedom you feel« is one of the ensemble’s most important maxims. The members of the Busch Trio now live in Amsterdam, otherwise their extremely intensive rehearsal work would not be possible. »We would like to live like monks in a monastery«, they confess. »We don’t really do it for ourselves, but out of a great sense of responsibility.«
Since its formation, the Busch Trio has performed regularly at major stages and festivals throughout Europe, including the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Liederhalle Stuttgart, the Heidelberger Frühling and the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival. They have received major awards for their work in the Netherlands and Germany.
Their long and fruitful association with the Alpha Classics label has resulted in highly acclaimed recordings of the complete works of Dvořák and Schubert.
The Busch Trio has performed at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Wigmore Hall and Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, and has toured the USA on several occasions.
