Few string quartets embody Shostakovich as much as his Eighth. The eponymous opening motif, D E-flat C B, sets the sombre tone of this self-portrait.

Description
The finale of the Shostakovich cycle is a summit meeting of a special kind: the world-renowned Jerusalem Quartet and the grande dame of the piano, Elisabeth Leonskaja, perform together.
The musicians of the Jerusalem Quartet are celebrated for the depth of their interpretations. They regularly work with the exceptional Russian pianist Elisabeth Leonskaja, who has appeared as a soloist with almost all the world’s leading orchestras and has a pronounced penchant for chamber music. Together they will perform Shostakovich’s Piano Quintet, which was a great success at its premiere in 1940 with the composer at the piano. This will be preceded by the highly autobiographical Eighth String Quartet and the more light-footed Sixth String Quartet.
