Bonn's lively center consists largely of a pedestrian zone, home to numerous restaurants, cafés, bookstores, and shopping centers. The Beethoven House, the composer's birthplace, now houses a museum. A statue of the artist can also be found nearby. The Bonn Theater includes both the opera and theaters. The Electoral Palace, used for centuries, with its extensive courtyard garden, now houses the University of Bonn.
