After more than 10 years of renovation, Miel Castle now shines in the faithfully restored splendour of days gone by. Today it is known for its golf course and the events that take place there.

Miel Castle was built from 1768 to 1772 on the foundations of a previously burnt-down castle on the same site. The design of the late baroque building is reminiscent of the French »Maison de Plaisance«. Miel Castle was built by the all-powerful Electorate of Cologne Minister Caspar Anton Freiherr von der Heyden – known as Count Belderbusch. Belderbusch was not only Electoral Chancellor of the Rhineland and Knight of the Teutonic Order, he was also the godfather of Ludwig von Beethoven’s brother.
