»We played in refugee camps or asked children who had lost their parents on the crossing to sing things for us, and put that into commissioned compositions.« – Danae Dörken
In a talk podcast with festival director Steven Walter, Danae Dörken talks about her commitment as the founder of a music festival on Lesbos, which she launched at the height of the refugee movement in 2015 in her mother’s family’s place of origin. She also talks about her training as a pianist at the elite piano class at Hanover University of Music and the challenges of balancing concert work and family life.
She will play two concerts at the 2023 Beethovenfest, as a soloist and as a chamber musician. The podcast offers a glimpse of the personal programmes, which closely follow the festival motto »Life«.
