The concert at at glance
Description
Anton Webern, the expressionist – in 1904 he was still standing on the threshold to atonality, but was already compressing extreme expressive power into tiny spheres. In complete contrast, Dmitri Shostakovich was searching for an objectivity whose sound could be difficult, ironic and even brutal. Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 59 No. 1 was a precursor for both composers.
