Invitations to festivals, radio recordings and numerous first and second prizes in national and international choir competitions testify to the high quality of the VOX BONA Chamber Choir of the Kreuzkirche Bonn, as most recently in the competitions of the German Choir Festival in Stuttgart in 2016 (Contemporary 1st prize, Romantic 2nd prize).
In 1990, church music director Karin Freist-Wissing took over the direction of the project choir, which was founded in 1987. The 45 singers of the chamber choir work on an extensive repertoire in weekly rehearsals, ranging from Renaissance and Baroque music, classical oratorio literature to Romantic and contemporary a cappella works.
The consistently excellent reviews emphasise not only the accuracy of intonation and perfect pronunciation, but especially the stage presence. Openness to the new and unheard-of is another trademark of the Bonn ensemble. This is exemplified by staged performances of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion and St. John Passion as well as improvisation concerts. In addition, there are always unusual crossover projects such as a concert of church music/pop with the Wise Guys in the Beethovenhalle in 2013.
VOX BONA received invitations to the Brühler Schlosskonzerte, the Beethovenfest Bonn and the Wiener Festwochen 2014. The chamber choir regularly works with renowned orchestras such as the Beethoven Orchester Bonn, Concerto Köln or Neue Düsseldorfer Hofmusik.
Since its foundation, the Chamber Choir has undertaken concert tours to Beria, Riga, Stockholm and Uppsala and won numerous prizes at international choir competitions: Budapest (2007, 1st prize), 8th German Choir Competition and special prize for the most innovative and exciting competition programme (2010, 2nd prize), Riva del Garda (2012, 1st prize »Mixed Choirs with Compulsory Piece«, 1st prize »Sacred Music«, winner of all categories »Gran Premio« as well as Audience Prize), Chorfest Stuttgart.
