Das Klanginstitut is building a new sound installation with a group of pupils from the Elisabeth Selbert comprehensive school in Bonn.
Listen(up): Creation of a sound installation
Das Klanginstitut, an initiative for music education and digital media, launched the Listen(Up) project at Beethovenfest Bonn in 2023. Over the course of two years, young people are creating an artistic sound installation that will be presented to the public at Beethovenfest 2024.
Workshops for young participants from all types of schools in Bonn were held over four weekends during the 2023 festival. The aim of the workshops was to explore digital sound processing in practice and to record sounds during Beethovenfest. The learning content included a music journalistic and documentary perspective, a workshop on the topic of structure-borne sound and the construction of contact microphones, digital sound processing on the computer and creative work with the sounds in the music software Max 8/BEAP.
In April and May 2024, young people from the Elisabeth Selbert comprehensive school will now create a sound installation based on the sounds produced and collected last year, which will be open to all visitors during the festival from September in the Festival Centre at the Kreuzkirche. The Deutsche Telekom Foundation is providing a telephone box for this purpose, which will be converted into an interactive art object by the young people. Everything is in the hands of the young people: From the mechanical conversion, the installation of a multi-channel audio system, the installation of sensors/user interfaces, the programming of an interactive music system through to the musical realisation and the graphic design of the telephone box.
The workshop is a co-operation with the Elisabeth-Selbert-Gesamtschule and is not open for general registration.
