Alma Naidu is an award-winning singer, composer and lyricist based in Munich, Germany. She was described as »one of the most promising singers on the German scene« by Süddeutsche Zeitung, the magazine Jazzthing praised her »delicate, wonderfully clear voice with absolutely perfect intonation«. The renowned drummer and producer Wolfgang Haffner recognized her talent immediately; he discovered Alma in 2019 and introduced her on his album »Kind of Tango« (ACT, 2020).
The singer and composer has performed at the Nublu Festival New York and the Leverkusen Jazz Days, among others. In the last years, she has toured to India, Mongolia and the USA and shared the stage with Nils Landgren, Bobby McFerrin and Lars Danielsson amongst others.
In early 2022, her self-titled debut album »Alma« (Leopard Records) was released, on which Alma Naidu presents music that she wrote and arranged herself. The twelve songs are based on a core line-up of drums (Wolfgang Haffner), bass (Claus Fischer) and keys (Simon Oslender), prominently complemented by top-class guest contributions from Nils Landgren and Dominic Miller, among others.
With her four-piece touring band, in which Alma Naidu is also playing the keys, she played around 40 successful album release concerts throughout Germany, the Czech Republic and France in 2022.
Alma Naidu completed her studies in jazz singing at the University for Music and Performing Arts in Munich and at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she studied with jazz icon Norma Winstone amongst others.
In 2021, she was awarded with the the BMW Welt Young Artist Jazz Award, the Kurt Maas Jazz award as well as the Bavarian Prize for Emerging Artists.
In addition to her jazz career, the singer appeared in various musical theatre and opera productions such as »Rosaly – das Mädchen aus Glas« as Rosaly (Munich, 2016), »Highlights from Lion King« as Nala (Salzburg, 2017), »Lovemusik« (Musikalische Komödie Leipzig, 2018), »Jesus Christ Superstar« (State Theatre Augsburg, 2019) and »Angel’s Bone« (2023).
