Arno Verbruggen (they/them), interdisciplinary artist based in Brussels, Belgium, specializes in dance, choreography, teaching, modelling, and directing. Arno is committed to becoming an informed and responsible creative force. Arno delivers immersive performances spanning various mediums, crafting raw and visceral experiences. Beyond dance, their multidisciplinary approach incorporates text, sound and fashion. Actively engaged in the creation process, Arno emphasizes social collaboration and environmental responsibility. Arno Verbruggen (born in 1997, Belgium) is a contemporary dancer graduated from Codarts University of the Arts (Rotterdam, 2015–2019). They danced with the Poetic Disasters Club of Club Guy&Roni (Groningen, 2018–2019) and then worked for Aura Dance Theatre in Kaunas, Lithuania (2019–2020). Concurrently, Arno shared their expertise through physical theatre and improvisation courses.
Since 2020, they have been working as an independent artist, collaborating with various companies, platforms, and artists from different art forms. Significant contributions include projects with Maison the Faux (Arnhem) and Stef Van Looveren (Antwerp), as well as collaborations with Action Zoo Humain/Chokri Ben Chikha (Ghent), Romeo Castellucci (Brussels), Moniek Merkx (Maas Theater en Dans and Noord Nederlands Toneel), Karolin Stächele/Dagada Dance company (Freiburg), Teddy's Last Ride (Groningen), among others.
Since 2015, Arno has also been developing their own artistic projects, notably in 2019 with »How to cope with a break up? #tuto,« a solo work presented at the Weekend Break festival in Groningen. In August 2022, they presented their latest work-in-progress, »𝐒𝐎𝐃𝐎𝐌«, at the Antwerp Queer Arts festival. Here’s what they say about art: »Art is where my heart lies.
