Ivan Repušić is currently Chief Conductor of the Munich Radio Orchestra, as well as Principal Guest Conductor of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and Chief Conductor Designate of the Staatskapelle Weimar. Born in Croatia in 1978, he studied conducting at the Academy of Music in Zagreb with Igor Gjadrov and Vjekoslav Sutej. After holding positions as chief conductor and opera director at the Croatian National Theatre in Split, musical director of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, chief conductor of the Zadar Chamber Orchestra, principal conductor at the State Opera in Hanover and principal guest conductor at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Ivan Repušić became general music director at the State Opera in Hanover for the 2016/2017 season. Since the 2017/2018 season and until summer 2026, Ivan Repušić has been Chief Conductor of the Munich Radio Orchestra.
Guest engagements have taken him to the New National Theatre in Tokyo, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, the Bavarian State Opera and the Komische Oper Berlin, among others. In the 2023/2024 season, Ivan Repušić will make his debut at Zurich Opera House with a new production of Verdi’s »I Vespri Siciliani«. Ivan Repušić has conducted all the major orchestras and opera ensembles in Croatia as well as the Norwegian National Opera Orchestra in Oslo, the Prague Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the NDR Radiophilharmonie and the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin.
As chief conductor of the Munich Radio Orchestra, Ivan Repušić has conducted a number of concert productions of operas and orchestral works and released them on leading European labels. Parallel to his conducting career, he taught at the University of Split’s Academy of Arts from 2004 to 2016, where he was awarded the title of Associate Professor. He has also received numerous important Croatian prizes for his artistic achievements: Vladimir Nazor Prize, Vatroslav Lisinski Prize, Milka Trnina Prize, Orlando Prize, City of Zadar Prize, etc. In 2021, the University of Zadar awarded him an honorary doctorate for his extraordinary contribution in the field of cultural and artistic creation.
