Jie-Goo Lee was born in Seoul (South Korea) and grew up in Brighton (U.K.). He has lived in Germany since 2002 and completed his percussion diploma at the Musikhochschule in Münster; then his master class diploma at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg.
Jie-Goo Lee is at home in a wide variety of musical styles, including solo performance, early and new music, chamber music, orchestral repertoire, percussion ensemble, marimba ensemble, improvisation and more.
He was a finalist in the 2006 European Music Prize for Youth competition and the youngest winner of the 2007 Hummel Competition in Munich, winning first prize in the DAAD competition at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg in the same year.
He taught in the percussion department of the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg from 2009 to 2012 and Münster 2016 to 2017.
Jie-Goo Lee is a regular guest in orchestras such as the Dortmund Philharmonic, Essen Philharmonic, Münster Symphony Orchestra, Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, Philharmonie Südwestfallen, Philharmonic Orchestra Würzburg, Vogtland Philharmonic Greiz/Reichenbach and Thuringian Symphony Saalfeld-Rudolstadt.
Jie-Goo Lee is currently engaged as a »performing artist« for Majestic Percussion.
