Nico Gutu was born and raised in Moldova. He started playing the accordion at the age of six and began studying the accordion in Weimar in 2012. Since 2019, he has been studying jazz and improvisation in Hanover – as the only accordionist in Germany. In addition, he also studied in Paris, France and in Cetraro, Italy.
Gutu courageously and innovatively combines baroque, classical music, jazz and free improvisation: through new playing techniques he expands the tonal nuances of his instrument. He has received special attention as a soloist with the Orchestra della Calabria Italy, at the »Heidelberger Frühling« and as soloist in the Berlin Philharmonie as well as in numerous concerts worldwide.
He has won many prizes, including 1st prize at the »Emanuel Elenescu« International Music Competition in Romania and 1st prize at the »German Accordion Music Prize« competition. He is also active as a music and improvisation teacher and has already given his own master classes and workshops at international level.
