Founded in 2010, the Compagnia di Punto is an ensemble dedicated to historical performance practice, performing music from the Baroque to the early Romantic periods, with fluid transitions between chamber and orchestral formations.

Two CD productions of world premiere recordings of chamber music and orchestral works by Antonio Rosetti for the Sony/DHM label, in collaboration with Deutschlandfunk, have been hailed by the trade press as reference recordings. The recording of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphonies Nos. 1–3 was hailed as a major contribution to the Beethoven Year 2020.

Performances at events such as the Mozartfest Würzburg, the Tage Alter Musik Herne, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Haydn Festival Eisenstadt, the Tage Alter Musik Regensburg, the Forum Alte Musik Köln and radio broadcasts have brought the ensemble to the attention of a wide audience.

The personal stories of the musicians begin in Asia, America and Europe; in metropolises of millions, between coal mines, in cultural centres and in the endless expanses of forest and sea. Their common story began in Cologne’s Early Music scene: all have gained international reputations as artists and teachers in leading positions in outstanding ensembles and now work as soloists, chamber musicians, conductors, university teachers or lecturers at various academies in Europe and overseas. The Compania’s central concern is to convey the relevance of Early Music to the present. To this end, the music is explored to its archaic roots and reflected in the light of contemporary compositions.

Innovative concert forms break down formal barriers, transcend social boundaries and establish links with literature, film and drama. Examples include »In Touch With Beethoven«, a musical-filmic approach to heroism in collaboration with the German Veterans’ Association based on the music of the »Eroica«, and »Es treibt mich hin, es treibt mich her!«, a musical drama for tenor, actress and chamber ensemble with songs by Robert Schumann and scene fragments from Georg Büchner’s »Woyzeck«.
