The concert at a glance
Description
Risk-taking and the courage to venture extremes – this not only describes Anja Bihlmaier’s conducting style, but also the programme that is the continuation of her three-year concert series at Beethovenfest. Tchaikovsky’s Mozart homage with its wonderfully gallant solo cello meets Zimmermann’s preposterous satire, Wilson’s modernist invocation of a West African thunder god, and Shostakovich’s casually sarcastic Ninth, with which he took a risky stance against Stalin.
