The Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich under Paavo Järvi opens this year’s Beethovenfest under the motto »Music About Life« with a brilliant symphony concert. The programme includes Antonín Dvořák’s Cello Concerto with soloist Anastasia Kobekina and his Symphony No. 9 »From the New World«. Before that, the orchestra plays Arthur Honegger’s »Pacific 231«, which captures the excitement of America’s progress around 1900 just as stirringly. The world premiere of »Gute Menschen« strikes a somewhat more critical note with contemporary poetry by Jürg Halter, arranged for recitation and orchestra by Ian Anderson.
