Johannes Marmen | violin
Laia Valentin Braun | violin
Bryony Gibson-Cornish | viola
Sinéad O'Halloran | cello
They come from four different countries and cultures, but what unites Johannes, Laia, Bryony and Sinéad are the musical conversations and stories they share with audiences. This fantastic world of string quartet music is born out of a constant musical dialogue that is able to create a deep and meaningful connection through trust, respect and joy.
2019 was a successful year for the Marmen Quartet: they won first prizes at the prestigious competitions in Bordeaux and Banff, Canada. Since then, the ensemble has performed in leading European and North American concert halls: London’s Wigmore Hall, Berlin’s Philharmonie and Boulez Saal, Stockholm’s Konserthuset and Malmö’s Palladium. Festival engagements have taken her to the BBC Proms, Lockenhaus, the Rheingau Music Festival and the Amsterdam and Barcelona Biennales. Commissioned works for the quartet have been written by Salina Fisher, Hannah Kendall and Garth Knox.
Formed at the Royal College of Music in 2013, the members of the Marmen Quartet studied with Oliver Wille at the Hanover Hochschule für Musik and with Simon Rowland-Jones and John Myerscough (Doric Quartet) in London.
