Description
Shostakovich succeeded in having an artistic freedom and dignity under the oppressive Soviet regime. His music bears witness to the civilisation disasters of the 20th century – as does his final symphony. It appears retrospective in character by using entire citations from his own works and from operas by Wagner and Rossini.
